Dear Student,
Ever wonder why so much vital scientific discovery stays "trapped" in labs and journals instead of reaching the people who need it?
The Department of Communication is opening up a rare opportunity for non-majors this summer! Usually, our upper-division courses are restricted to Comm students, but COMM 164: Communicating Science to the Public is currently open to everyone. This is likely the only time you’ll be able to grab a seat in this class if you aren't already a Comm major! 📢
What’s it about? The scientific community is a key source of knowledge, but that info is often segregated from the public. This course examines the socio-cultural factors that either help or hinder the communication of science. From Global Warming to the environmental impact of AI, we’ll look at the real-world consequences of what happens when communication succeeds—or fails. 🤖🌱
