| Originally known as Floatopia, Deltopia is an unsanctioned social event started in 2004 which takes place annually in Isla Vista and often attracts tens of thousands of people from the area and outside of the area. Most activity occurs during the day on the Saturday of the event. Unfortunately, in recent years, Deltopia has been impactful both to the local businesses and residents of IV, requiring a coordinated response from law enforcement and medical facilities. This one-day event continues to overwhelm and drain our local law enforcement and emergency resources and causes great concern for the well-being of our students and residents.
This year, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors has approved a 72-hour festival ordinance to address safety concerns and strain on resources caused by the unsanctioned annual Deltopia street festival. The ordinance also updates the Public Nuisance/Social Host Ordinance, allowing law enforcement to immediately shut down parties for specific violations like charging admission, having an overcrowded balcony, or engaging in dangerous behavior. The Sheriff's Office has announced a "zero tolerance" enforcement plan for the weekend.
In response to the ban on the traditional event, the Isla Vista Community Services District (IVCSD) is working to host a sanctioned, permitted alternative event in collaboration with local businesses and organizations to provide a safer environment for students and residents. This event will be Soltopia, IV’s Spring Music Festival, which will require wristbands for entry.
In University Housing, we will have a No Guest Policy and enhanced staffing in place during this weekend to help mitigate concerns related to this annual event, in an effort to support student safety and protect college property. The no guest policy runs from Friday, April 3rd at 8am to Sunday, April 5th at 10am.
UPDATED ORDINANCE - This January, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors voted to approve the new Deltopia noise ordinance: a 72-hour festival ordinance prohibiting amplified music during the weekend of April 4th.
SOLTOPIA - The IVCSD, in partnership with Associated Students, is working to create a new spring festival, Soltopia, for our community to save the live music and the creative spirit of Isla Vista - April 4th, 2026.
Exclusive festival wristbands for Isla Vista and on-campus residents. What does a Soltopia wristband get you? FREE food all day long from our amazing festival vendors (Roger's Tacos, Yetz's Bagel, Bagel Cafe, Super Cuca's, Elubia's, Maria's Tacos, Isla Vista Food Co-op, Zocalo) VIP access to each entertainment zone. Skip the lines for music, bevs, bites, and games. Identify yourself as a local. Wristbands are exclusive to IV and on-campus residents.
How to get one: Fill out the Wristband Wristband Sign-Up Form Pick up in-person from March 30th - April 3rd at the IV Community Center from 9 AM - 8 PM Register as an individual OR with a campus / IV organization (ex: Greek life, campus clubs, etc.)
Wristbands are free for locals! Just provide proof of residency like a screenshot of a lease, utility bill, dormitory card, etc.
As of today IVCSD has given out about 3500 wristbands to local residents! More information can be found here - https://islavistacsd.ca.gov/soltopia-isla-vista-s-spring-music-festival
