Teaching Sensitive Topics
 
Safe spaces and intellectually rich discussions are not mutually exclusive; in fact, the former is essential for the latter.

In this workshop, participants will brainstorm and design ways to facilitate the mental shift from /safe/ teaching to /inclusive/ teaching.

Explore the theory and implementation of trauma-informed pedagogy, the writing of effective trigger warnings, & strategies for handling either micro-aggressions or outright aggression in the classroom.

Isla Vista Clean Air Fair Day

The Isla Vista Clean Air Day Fair aims to raise awareness about local air quality issues and environmental justice, engage the community in clean air activities, and promote sustainable practices.

This event will provide educational panels, hands-on activities, & resources to help residents understand & improve air quality in Isla Vista.

Join to learn about indoor air quality, climate resilience, wildfire preparation, innovative best practices in sustainable just transportation & more!

CalFresh Enrollment Party! 🥑

Are you interested in applying for CalFresh & would like some help with the application? Our CalFresh & Basic Needs Advocates can help you determine if you are eligible, talk you through the application process, & assist you along the way if you run into any challenges. Eligible students can receive up to $291 per month to purchase groceries!

To meet with a Calfresh Advocate in-person, visit the Food Security and Basic Needs Advising Center (walk-ins only) inside of the UCEN (left side).  

To meet with a Calfresh Advocate virtually, book an appointment through Shoreline at www.basicneeds.ucsb.edu, just scroll down on the homepage to find the different appointment options.

CARE Lunch & Series

In October for Relationship Violence Awareness Month, CARE is excited to host a lunch and learn series for Student Affairs staff on topics that are critical to relationships and safety in the digital age.

CARE will be hosting pre-recorded webinars from the national organization EndTab (https://www.endtab.org/) on several topics related to relationships and digital safety.
