Leveraging LinkedIn

Networking can be an intimidating word for folks who aren't a fan of talking to strangers or who feel awkward reaching out to someone they don't know to ask for a professional favor.

Instead of a cold email to someone you have no connection with, try sending a message to someone you have something in common- your "Gauchoness"! Gauchos support Gauchos! The database that's produced from the LinkedIn Alumni tool presents you with nearly 190K UCSB students, both past and present, who have a wealth of information for you to glean- what they did while they were students, what they did after graduation, where they attended grad school, if at all, where they live, where they work, and so much more.

You might use the LinkedIn Alumni tool to find people to conduct informational interviews with, to see what folks are now doing as careers with your same college major, ask for professional advice, or simply seek fellow Gauchos to stay connected. Touch base with our Career Peers or your Career Counselor for a LinkedIn profile how to/critique and a demo of the Alumni database anytime.

Job postings and employer announcements are made without endorsement, direct or implied, by Career Services or UCSB. Career Services educates students about various opportunities and ensures equity of access to campus recruiting activities for all employers who abide by our Employer Policies. Individual students are encouraged to determine which employers align with their diverse talents, values, and interests. We encourage all students to review our policies, learn how to identify employment scams, and reply to this email with any questions.
