Do you ever feel like a "late bloomer" and like everyone else has their life all planned out while you're still figuring it out? If this sounds like you, this workshop is for you!Many Humanities and Social Science majors worry what they will do after they graduate for their careers. This event will directly confront this fear, breaking the myth that one's career trajectory must be clear-cut and planned out from the beginning by showcasing one highly successful professional's career journey as an example of success.Luis Chavez will share his story of going from a first-gen and transfer student at UCI to now being a recognized, influential and inspiring Higher Education equity advocate as well as CEO and founder of nonprofit First-Gen America and the "My Circle of Champions" app.Rooted in real life examples, this workshop introduces the career development approach of “Planned Happenstance” with the goal of moving away from the idea of career pathways as linear and perfectly planned. We will hear some real-life career stories of virtual guest Luis Chavez, a first-gen Transfer student and graduate of UC Irvine who fell into a higher education nonprofit and advocacy career he loves rather than rigidly planned. This discussion seeks to foster flexibility, creativity, the importance of networking and being open to learning from each experience.
