Draft Climate Action Plan comment period and public forum

On behalf of the Chancellor’s Sustainability Committee, we are pleased to share our draft Climate Action Plan (CAP).  The 2025 CAP assesses and analyzes UCSB’s current, historical, and projected emissions and evaluates the campus’s progress toward meeting the UC Climate Policy.  Planned and conceptual climate change mitigation strategies are outlined in the plan, providing a potential pathway towards achieving a 90% reduction in total emissions by calendar year 2045 from a 2019 baseline.

The plan also addresses climate resilience and how we can prepare our campus community for future climate conditions.  There is also a new commuting section, and we need your feedback on how to make commuting more affordable while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Join us on November 5 for a draft CAP public forum

We welcome your review and feedback.

The final version of the plan will be submitted to UC’s Office of the President (UCOP) at the end of fiscal year 2025/26. Please submit your comments by Friday, December 5, 2025, by email to jewel...@ucsb.edu.  This will give us adequate time to review feedback with the Chancellor’s Sustainability Committee, incorporate where feasible, before submitting the final version of the plan to the UCOP.

  • You can’t use both Medi-Cal and UC SHIP at the same time—using Medi-Cal will end your UC SHIP enrollment.

  • You may waive UC SHIP with private insurance, Medi-Cal in an eligible county, or international health insurance that meets UC requirements.

  • The waiver period is Nov 3 – Dec 17, 2025 with no fee.

  • A $50 late fee applies for waivers submitted Dec 18, 2025 – Jan 2, 2026.

  • No waivers will be accepted after Jan 2, 2026 for Winter Quarter.
