Subject: [UCSBADVS] Please Fwd: Spring 2026: Interested In Philosophy and Language? PHIL 150C Open Spots!
To: <ucsb...@ltsc.ucsb.edu>

Dear Students,

We still have open spots in PHIL 150C: Advanced Philosophy of Language! Meets Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9:30am-10:45am.

Feel free to reach out to the instructor of the course, Thaina Coltro Demartini (tha...@umail.ucsb.edu), for any questions. Below is her description of the course:
No prior background in philosophy of language is required – we’ll start from scratch together. My goal is to deepen our understanding of how meaning and communication work by analyzing real-world language practices that shape thought and public discourse. In practice, we will look at how language can harm, exclude, or mislead. For example, we’ll examine slurs, dog whistles, and other forms of politically charged speech to see what they reveal about meaning.
  • PHIL 150C's prerequisites are as follows: "Two courses from Philosophy 100A or 100B or 100C or 100D or 100E or 100F.
