Healthy Food Pilot Programs Coordinator | Job #9922412
The UCSB Sustainability Internships & Community Resources Department seeks a student intern to be the program coordinator for two health and wellbeing programs.Ā The first project, running through the Summer 2025, will be leading a series of student focused forums to get feedback on nutrition guidance for basic needs programs and to raise awareness of food justice issues related to lack of access to healthy food options.Ā This is a Policy, Systems, and Environment strategies program of the CalFresh Healthy Living Program ( https://calfresh.dss.ca.gov/healthyliving/).Ā Forums will discuss what nutrition standards might be useful for basic needs programs and how items that are healthier can be promoted while being sensitive to issues of body shaming, honoring choices of clients using basic needs service, cultural food options, and other food justice issues.
The second project will run through the 2025-2026 academic year and will focus on encouraging students, staff, and faculty to purchase healthier options at campus vending machines.Ā During this portion of the project, the intern will also be collecting and reporting on health data for vending machine purchases.Ā This will be in service of the UC Healthy Vending Policy Guidelines: https://www.ucop.edu/sustainability/_files/uc-healthy-vending-policy-spwg-1.pdf and Healthy Vending Policy within the UC Policy on Sustainable Practices: https://policy.ucop.edu/doc/3100155/SustainablePractices (Page 20).Ā
The selected student will be part of the UC Bonnie Reiss Leading on Climate Action Fellowship Program. The program engages and energizes students in support of UCās climate action and sustainable food goals. The fellowship program is funded by the UC Presidentās Global Climate Leadership Council (GCLC).Ā Fellows will be a part of a UC Systemwide network of student fellows from all 10 UC Campuses.

Membership and Outreach Coordinator | Job #9922426
The UCSB Edible Campus Program (ECP) seeks a Membership and Outreach Coordinator.Ā ECP currently manages 6 community gardens (Family Student Housing Storke, Family Student Housing West, Greenhouse and Garden Project, St Michael's Community Garden, Methodist Community Garden, and IV Community Center Garden.Ā Please note that the two religious groups we partner with are open, inclusive, and affirming of the LGBT community.Ā The gardens are not part of their religious work, but instead a way that they give back to the community at large.Ā Three of these gardens are primarily plot based (meaning that the garden is divided up into private plots).Ā This intern would help keep track of plot assignments, recruit students to join as plot holders, and develop programs to support members.Ā These programs will expand collaborations among members, provide resources and training to members, and encourage members to participate in volunteering towards collaborative projects and joint spaces in the garden. Ā Ā This intern will also help promote our other three gardens which are primarily communally organized.Ā In these gardens there is no private ownership of plots, but instead the community comes together to grow food and share in the harvest together.Ā Engagement opportunities in these gardens are primarily through garden clubs at each garden. Ā In addition to these core projects, this intern will assist with class tours of gardens, general tabling for the ECP, developing promotional materials for ECP workshops, and other support of our outreach team.
The selected student will be part of the UC Bonnie Reiss Leading on Climate Action Fellowship Program. The program engages and energizes students in support of UCās climate action and sustainable food goals.
