Hi all,
Hope you're doing great,

My name is Nicola Corti. I'm part of the React core team at Meta and I'm one of the maintainer of React Native.

I'm touching base to understand if there are size restrictions on publishing artifacts to Maven Central.

We're looking into changing the artifact storage/distribution solution for React Native, and Maven Central looks really promising. We would be moving the majority of our artifacts (currently distributed inside NPM packages or Github Releases) to Maven Central. Some of those are artifacts contains debug native symbols which can get quite big (around ~500Mb).

I'm writing on this mailing list as the only source of information on size restrictions seems to be this StackOverflow question: https://stackoverflow.com/a/4922790

We do have a drafted RFC on the various solutions that we considered here if you're looking into some technical details:

It would be great if we could get a green light on sizing, as mentioned by the Sonatype engineer on StackOverflow. We would love to avoid to migrate all the artifacts to Maven Central and then having to migrate once more because we hit a size restriction on Sonatype ends.

If needed, you can reach out also my work email nc...@fb.com

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Best.

Nicola

Hi Nicola, I'd like to have a follow up conversation with you/your team to understand better what the intent here is. Maven Central is intended to distribute components used by tooling directly (eg Maven, Gradle etc) but shouldn't be used as a free CDN for distribution of non-development components (eg tarballs etc). There are of course options to discuss as it can be nuanced. Lets find a time to discuss this further?
