Nexus docker proxy for AWS ECR

Has anyone been successful in creating a Nexus proxy to a docker registry hosted by an Amazon ECR instance?

I've created https://issues.sonatype.org/browse/NEXUS-14083 to log it. I think it would be great to have this use case covered.

This should be visible to a signed in user now. There has been no progress by Sonatype on this issue.
