Hi guys. I'm in a process to make a Maven 2 repo available in my job. But I'm not sure whether I could use Nexus OSS 3.x. Nexus OSS 2.x was licensed under EPL v1, which would let me install and use it for production. But Nexus OSS 3.x has changed to a SONATYPE MASTER EULA AGREEMENT.

Well, I don't know any of law terms and I'm not certain if I could use Nexus OSS 3.x for my production server. Is it realy free?

Thanks!

Yes, it is free to use, in Production, and anywhere and on as many servers as you'd like. The license remains EPL v1 on the public code.

Hope this helps.

All of the public code has EPL v1 headers, for one (which Maven2 is a part of). The rest I think is pretty commonly available on our websites.

And yet, when entering about section, we get a SONATYPE MASTER EULA AGREEMENT, instead (unlike 2.x, wich has an EPL license). Well, it sounds like quite strange for me. I must, though, embrace Archiva, instead.

Thanks for your time, anyway.

We've attempted to simplify the distribution by providing a single download of the bits that can be license activated to enable the paid functionality without requiring a separate installation/upgrade. In the process the licensing was necessarily consolidated as well.

The core OSS download is free and governed by the terms of the EPL license. There are some features like the Repository Health Check which are Free but not open sourced (in 2x you'd see the "Free Binary License" that describes this).

This is useful feedback that the actual state and intent of the licensing has become less clear and I'll work with our GC and Product team to make this more clear in subsequent releases.

One thing I can be clear about though, there were no changes intended to the state of the licensing intent between 2x and 3x.

Thank you, Brian.
Good to hear that! It's always good to be in touch with teams that worry about their clients, regardless they use free or paid version!
I hope this can help more people in future.

Best regards!
