What exactly does "Purge unused docker manifests and images" do?

I cannot seem to locate any documentation on this feature.  It is not mentioned in the online book:


If I upload a new image with version "latest", and then this task is run before anything happens to pull it, will it be deleted?  Is there a number of days time limit of some kind?

What precisely does "unused" mean?
