Field Notes

GD002-AMWD is above the towns of Blackhawk and Central City, 2 old mining settlements in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains that have evolved into a mini-Las Vegas. After a detour to hike to the summit of Maryland Mountain, I returned to Blackhawk, drove past all the casinos, and then zig-zagged up steep residential roads to the summit of a hill above Central City. The roads didn’t seem wide enough to support 2-way traffic, so I was glad to not meet any vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. On the flat summit of the hill, I found the GD002-AMWD dashpoint 20m west of Mac Rock Road, behind a fence. There wasn’t much to see at the dashpoint, other than the small square structure that I had observed in the satellite photo, which appeared to be an old outhouse.

Thanks to Lucien for reviving the game and giving me a reason to get out of the house and back into the mountains.

(The photo was taken from the summit of Maryland Mountain, not from the dashpoint. The mountain on the left is Mt Blue Sky, formerly called Mt Evans.)
