Dead bluebird and eggs in nestbox

Hello,

Yesterday while checking on our backyard nest boxes I sadly discovered that the female bluebird who had previously hatched a successful clutch in June was found dead sitting on her second clutch of 4 eggs in our nest box, which has a predator guard and a 28 in metal tube baffle. The bird and eggs appeared unharmed, and she was sitting on the 4 eggs-also unharmed. I wonder what happened? Any ideas or advice to prevent this from happening again? Thank you.

Did you see any signs of trauma to the adult, such as wounds to the head caused by a Starling or another bird?
