We are two master's students in Conservation Ecology at Paris-Saclay University, currently working on an academic project that simulates the process of preparing a research proposal for the French National Research Agency (ANR). Our project focuses on zoonotic pathogen transmission between humans and gorillas, particularly in the Cross River National Park on the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
To ensure the feasibility of our proposal, we need to estimate the logistical and financial costs associated with conducting fieldwork in this region. However, we are facing significant challenges in obtaining responses from local researchers and institutions that we have contacted, as well as from companies that could potentially provide logistical support.
If you have worked in this region, we would be immensely grateful to share any insights (even briefly) about the logistical setup you implemented for your fieldwork. In particular:
How did you conduct your field campaigns? (e.g., duration, daily logistics, sample transportation)
What were the major logistical constraints you encountered?
Who were your local collaborators or institutions?
Any rough cost estimates for transportation, field assistants, or sample processing would be extremely valuable.
Since we have had limited success in getting responses from local contacts, we are reaching out more broadly to this community, hoping that someone might be ready to share their insights.
If you are available for a quick discussion, we would be happy to arrange a virtual meeting at your convenience.
Thank you in advance for your time and any advice you can provide. Your experience is invaluable in helping us refine our project proposal.
Best regards,
