Veterinary Technician Essential Duties and Responsibilities-

·        Work from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM Monday through Friday.

·        Work rotating weekends and holidays as assigned.

·        Provide compassionate care for the animals.

·        Conduct clinical observations for hospital and colony animals 

·        Assist veterinarians in all aspects of clinical care

o   Assist in catching and chemical restraint of ill or injured animals.

o   Assist in assessment and complete treatment of hospitalized animals or animals treated in outdoor enclosures.

o   Assist in taking of x-rays, ultrasounds, surgery

o   Perform laboratory tests (i.e. fecal, CBC, Chemistries, blood processing)

o   Shipment of biological samples

o   Maintaining enrichment platforms

o   Monitor, record, and report physical signs of hospitalized animals.

o   Release hospital animals upon completion of treatment as directed by the veterinarian.

o   Coordinate animal shipments

·        Maintain all hospital areas in a neat and sanitary condition. Assist in cleaning cages and all hospital areas including surgery suite, necropsy, treatment/procedure rooms, neonatal and isolation areas.

·        Maintain Pharmacy inventory - restocking treatment/procedure rooms as needed.

·        Maintain logbooks for – expired drugs, specimen testing, necropsy, x-ray, ketamine

·        Assist in physical animal processing including lifting and transport of equipment and supplies, animal handling, lifting and transfer of animals from one enclosure to another, anesthesia, exam, vaccinations, venipuncture, tattooing, TB testing, deworming, micro-chipping, recovery and release

·        Communicate with vet team in Mauritius

·        Assist with group or male introductions

·        Familiarization

·        Other duties may be assigned


Qualifications-

·        Education and/or Experience:

o   High school diploma and two years of experience as veterinary technician OR high school diploma and 4 years of experience as animal care technician.

·        Language Skills:

o   English required.  Spanish a plus, but not required.

·        Computer skills:

o   Basic, Microsoft Office
