PASA is hiring a Campaign Manager
The Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA), the largest association of wildlife centers in Africa, is hiring a Campaign Manager to lead conservation programs.
In this full-time position, you will collaborate with PASA’s Executive Director, as well as other PASA staff and 23 member organizations in Africa, to lead the implementation of PASA’s strategy for advocacy for and conservation of African primates and help to establish the Alliance as a leader in wildlife protection.
To fill this position, you must have experience with international policy, diplomacy, and/or African governments, as well as demonstrated success with independently planning and managing challenging, multifaceted projects, and and passion for animal welfare and/or wildlife conservation.
You can work remotely, although preference may be given to people who will be based in Africa or Portland, Oregon, USA (where PASA is based).

Job Description: Campaign Manager
Main purpose of the job: Lead the development and implementation of PASA’s strategy for advocacy and conservation of African primates, in collaboration with the Executive Director and other staff, and help to establish the Alliance as a leader in wildlife protection.
Full time employment
A minimum 18 month commitment is expected; longer is preferred
Reporting to the Executive Director
Core Responsibilities
Strengthen the Alliance’s roles in conservation
• Establish partnerships with major conservation organizations
• Provide guidance for PASA’s participation in CITES and other international conventions and associations and represent PASA when appropriate
• Develop relationships with African government agencies, working with PASA members when possible
• Identify and research conservation issues that PASA may become involved in
Lead conservation programs
• Lead PASA’s program to disrupt chimpanzee trafficking in West Africa, working with PASA members and external partners to strengthen wildlife law enforcement and deter smugglers
• Plan and launch a program to address the role of China in illegal wildlife trade and habitat loss
• Plan and co-manage a program to raise awareness globally about South Africa as a wildlife trafficking hub
• In collaboration with members in D.R. Congo, form a network of government agencies, law enforcement NGOs, and sanctuaries throughout the country that reduces primate trafficking
Support PASA’s member organizations in Africa
• Support PASA members to develop strategic partnerships that can influence law enforcement, legal protection, and other national and regional conservation initiatives
• As needed, contribute to cross-border rescues of primates, including negotiating with government agencies
Collaborate with Alliance personnel
• Work collaboratively with staff of PASA and PASA’s member organizations
• Provide compelling stories, photos, and other content for PASA’s fundraising and communications
• Manage other projects, fill roles, and complete tasks as needed
Qualifications
• Three or more years of successful experience with international policy, diplomacy, and/or African governments
• Three or more years of demonstrated success with independently planning and managing challenging, multifaceted projects, and complete them within deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Ability to conduct conversations in French and English
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
• Experience managing volunteers and/or staff
• Demonstrated passion for animal protection and/or wildlife conservation
Preferred qualifications
• Experience with CITES and/or similar international conventions
• Experience working in Africa
• Relationships with international conservation organizations
• A law degree or other legal experience (especially international law)
