Animal Behavior Technician, University of Pittsburgh-Pittsburgh, PA
The Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) at the University of Pittsburgh has an opening for an Animal Behavior Technician. The primary focus of this position is the environmental enhancement and psychological well-being of nonhuman primates (NHPs) and regulated birds.
Responsibilities include 1) provide for the psychological well-being of NHPs and regulated birds; 2) enhance the animal environment for all species; 3) provide animal behavioral guidance, training, and support to animal users; 4) effective communication and collaboration with veterinary and research personnel; 5) perform behavioral assessments and evaluate compatibility for social housing; 6) develop and implement strategies to minimize single housing of compatible species ; 7) evaluate and find solutions for animals with stereotypic or other maladaptive behaviors; 8) ensure appropriate documentation of environmental enrichment and psychological well-being as requested and required by University and regulatory agencies; 9) IACUC participation.
Relevant training, experience, and skills: Two years of experience working with a variety of animals in a research, clinical, or zoo setting with a minimum of one year experience working with NHPs.
