The California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC) is an Organized Research Unit that conducts interdisciplinary research programs on significant human health related problems where nonhuman primates are the animal models of choice. Job Summary
Under general direction of the PBHS Manager, manages the PBHS Program to maintain and assure regulatory compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, the Guide, the Environmental Enhancement Plan and SOPs. Supervisor is expected to oversee and manage the daily operations of PBHS, which include ensuring the psychological wellbeing of the nonhuman-primate colony by implementing PBHS’s plans and procedures and providing high quality service to PIs on matters pertaining to the research-behavioral management interface (ranging from but not limited to animal selections on project to mining and reporting on a variety of socio-behavioral and demographic/genetic data); supervision of unit staff; creating and providing progress and status reports to the manager, database management and analysis; developing plans to address the primates’ social and behavioral needs and establish adequate platforms for successful implementation within a research environment. Effectively managing a performance-based and outcome-based program and staff. Work with staff to handle and resolve operational issues and individual animal concerns. Provide oversight to maximize productivity, sustaining team based culture and supporting staff during organizational growth with limited resources. Promote continued education, and opportunities for career development and acquisition of new skills to meet future growth challenges supporting the CNPRC colony and research program.
