Hello Euler Users,
I'll cut straight to the chase:
ALL LEGACY "WACC" ACCOUNTS WILL BE DISCONTINUED ON OCTOBER 1ST!!!
If you're using Euler and still haven't migrated to a CAE account (if you aren't 100% certain, please read on), your account will no longer be valid after October 1st, 2023. Home directories for unmigrated accounts will be preserved until the end of the fall
semester, after which they will be DELETED.
Here are solutions to some common issues:
- If you aren't sure about the status of your account... There is a tool on Euler which will tell you your account status. Log in to Euler using SSH and run
am-i-cae-yet in your shell. It will return a helpful message which should clearly identify the status of your account and whether there are any further steps you need to take.
- If you don't know whether you have a CAE account... Every College of Engineering student or faculty/staff member either has or is eligible for a CAE account. Some non-Engineering Euler users may need to
reach out to euler-...@engr.wisc.edu to confirm that they can get a new account.
- How long does account migration take?
It depends. For most users, it only takes a few hours and can be completed within one business day. For users who have large numbers of files†, it can take longer.
- Can I make an exception for you? Probably not. A large amount of very fragile infrastructure is required to maintain legacy accounts; it is aging fast and there are already several parts which
are no longer compatible with the rest.
If you need to migrate your account, or if you have any other questions or concerns, please reach out to
euler-...@engr.wisc.edu for assistance.
Regards,
Colin Vanden Heuvel

As a reminder, you should not have more than 1.5 (or 2.5 for some folks) TB of files in your home directory unless you've received permission from the System administrator to store large amounts of data.
Cleaning up data which you are not using can significantly speed up the migration process. The longest migration time so far was about 25 hours.
