I'm writing to share an opening for a postdoctoral researcher in the
Department of Engineering and Public Policy (EPP) at Carnegie Mellon University, working with the
Open Energy Outlook Initiative to advance open, policy-relevant analysis of the U.S. energy system.
This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of open-source software development, energy systems modeling, and energy policy. The successful candidate will play a leading role in developing and applying the
Temoa energy systems optimization framework and conducting research on the long-term evolution of the U.S. energy system.
The position involves:
- Developing and extending the open-source Temoa modeling framework
- Maintaining a detailed database of the U.S. energy system
- Designing and analyzing scenarios to evaluate energy and climate policy under uncertainty
- Collaborating with an interdisciplinary research team while helping steward an active open-source software community
- Publishing high-impact, policy-relevant research
We're looking for candidates with:
- A Ph.D. in engineering, operations research, economics, or a related field
- Experience in optimization-based energy systems modeling and scientific programming (e.g., Python, Pyomo, Pandas, R)
- Experience with GitHub and open-source software development is highly desirable
This is a 1-2 year position (with possibility of renewal), based in Pittsburgh, PA. The successful candidate will work directly with me, Paulina Jaramillo, and Jeremiah Johnson, as co-PIs of the Open Energy Outlook Initiative.
