Shop users,
We are reaching out on behalf of the Chemistry Instrument Shops (machine, glass, electronics) in a time of staffing crisis. Two positions (one machine, one electronics) have emptied in the last two years and have not been backfilled due to hiring freeze concerns.
Matt Martin (machine/pump) is expecting to retire this summer. Tracy Drier's (glass) retirement is also on the horizon. Taken together all these vacancies significantly reduce our capabilities. Long term, extensive institutional knowledge will be lost if there
are gaps between retirements and hirings.
Please write a short message of support for continued staffing of the Chemistry Instrument Shops. In your message, please emphasize the immediate need to fill at least one machine shop position to train under Matt Martin, this is our emergency priority. Details
about which shop capabilities your research group relies upon would be very helpful as we attempt to return to full staffing in the next few years and prepare for e.g. Tracy's retirement. These messages will be used by the Chemistry Department in a proposal
to L&S soon, so a quick reply would be appreciated.
Please send your message to any of the following:
Don't reply to the shoptalk listserv (this address), it will spam all the subscribers.
Thank you for your consideration,
Amber, Blaise, Tracy, and Steve
