SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIALIST (REMOTE VOLUNTEER POSITION) 

THE CHIMFUNSHI WILDLIFE ORPHANAGE TRUST

The Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage Trust (CWOT) is a not for profit organization located in the Copperbelt region of Zambia, dedicated to the proficient care and wellbeing of over 140 chimpanzees, most of whom rescued from poachers, dilapidated zoos and circuses and from the bushmeat/pet trade since our foundation in 1983. Chimfunshi was founded by David and Sheila Siddle, and today is managed by a Board of Trustees to ensure the long-term sustainability of the sanctuary.

CWOT is a Pan African Sanctuary Association(PASA) prestigious member and has been an important asset for the welfare and conservation of chimpanzees and other African wildlife. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Social Media Volunteer Officer will assist with the needs of the Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage Trust (CWOT), working closely with the Communication Committee to create engaging content for the NGO social media presence, including keeping social media channels updated and brand focused, and seeking new social media avenues and ways of connecting with audiences. The right person will be a creative self-starter, who is able to work within a team environment and is extremely detail oriented, with strong written and spoken communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Help create and maintain an engaging social media plan
• Use social media to promote the activities and achievements of CWOT, keeping our social media channels updated on a frequent basis
• Reply and Interact with followers and community on social media
• Ensure that communication reaches a wide range of local stakeholders and diverse audience

• Select relevant channels to reach our diverse audience and develop/manage content for our website and social media, such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter Tiktok, Linkedln, Kwai & Youtube (and others)

• Take part in monthly remote meetings with communications committee members

• Track the effectiveness of our social media work and recommend ways forward
• Keep up to date with CWOT events and news, and choosing what to promote through our social media feeds/channels
• Stay current on topics important to CWOT work in order to share new information with our online community
• Assist in creating and develop graphics and publicity materials for various campaigns and posts (asset)
• Assist and support staff during fundraising campaigns, newsletters preparations or other events
• Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times
• Perform other duties related to this role as needed

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

• Intermediate/Advanced level experience with social media and digital marketing best practices
• Experienced in graphic design and relevant software is an asset
• Excellent knowledge of all Social Media platforms and support/aggregate software including Facebook, Twitter, etc.

• Knowledge of non-profit culture is preferred
• Excellent communication skills, to be articulate, with strong writing skills and the ability to feedback accurately
• Ability to transform small snippets of information into interesting and engaging stories suitable for Instagram, Facebook etc
• Patient, positive attitude, hardworking, organized, reliable
• The ability to work equally well in a team and unsupervised
• Good understanding of confidentiality

EDUCATION

Marketing, Public Relations, Graphic Communications or enrollment in a program related to these specialties is an asset

• Animal Care Manager, Office Administrator and Communications Assistant(s) and relevant committees
• Other staff, volunteers and/or community members as applicable
