You are invited to sign up for United Way of Washtenaw County’s updated 21-Day Equity Challenge, launching on
Juneteeth
(June 19th, 2021). Our goal is for 5,000 people to lend their power to fuel a social movement.
-
The Equity Challenge is a commitment to devote 10-15 minutes a day for 21 days to learn about the history and impacts of racism in Washtenaw County and the different ways that bias, prejudice, privilege,
and oppression show up in our everyday lives.
-
Your participation is private and free.
-
Every morning of the 21-day Challenge, you’ll receive an email prompt with readings, videos, or podcasts that will take about 10-15 minutes of your time.
- For on-line signup go to
uwgive.org/equity

New this year
- FAMILY FRIDAYS - developed by Nuola Akinde, founder of Kekere
Freedom School, each Friday of the Challenge will include activities on how to talk about race and equity with the children in your life.
How it began
The Equity Challenge was originally developed by Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr., Dr. Marguerite Penick-Parks, and Debby Irving and was adapted by Food Solutions New England. From
there, it was made available to other organizations. The United Way of Washtenaw County committed to adapt the Equity Challenge with our community partners as an important part of broader efforts to build an equitable community for all.
Save the dates
On June 25, July 9, and July 16 we’ll be convening Equity Challenge participants in Community Conversations facilitated by our friends at
Nonprofit
Enterprise at Work. Our purpose? Create space for transformative dialogue, identify changes we can make as individuals and within our organizations in order to create the change we want to see within our community.
