ANNOUNCEMENTS
We received some terrific feedback about our new Web site: www.FarmToInstitution.org. Please explore the new calendar of events to stay informed about meetings, conferences, and other activities sponsored by FINE and its partners. You can let us know about farm to institution events that we should post on the calendar by emailing us at In...@FarmToInstitution.org
EVENTS
Save the Date! August 2-5, 2012 is the the 6th National Farm to Cafeteria Conference: Digging In! in Burlington, VT. From the organizers: "Whether you are new to the movement or have years of wisdom to share, the conference is a great opportunity to network, build skills and get energized!" Click here for the latest information about workshop proposals, scholarships, and registration.
The Massachusetts Farm to School project held a very successful day-long convention on March 15, 2012 in Sturbridge, MA. The lineup featured prominent leaders in the farm to school movement, food and nutrition advocates, policy makers, and other experts. Presentations and interactive workshops provided information on everything from creating school gardens to overcoming logistical barriers to local foods procurement to the growing partnerships between schools and community farms. Click here to see the full list of workshops and the speakers who took part in this exciting event.
FINE is holding two planning meetings on April 12 and 13 in Leominster, Mass. The first day will focus on reviewing FINE's mission, partner roles and representation, current project updates and future project planning. The second day will address measurement, metrics, and indicators for FINE and farm to institution success in general. Both days involve a balance of presentations and working sessions. We are excited to bring some of our key partners together to strategize about making this emerging collaboration as effective as possible.
RESEARCH AND RESOURCES
A collaboration of groups in New Hampshire recently published "What’s On Your Plate? An on-going community conversation about the food system in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region." This insightful document offers background, opportunities, and action steps for farm to institution issues like system change, education and skill development, health and safety, and many more. Click here to download a copy of the report.
FINE will soon be releasing a report on the Department of Defense "DoD Fresh" program. The research, based on extensive interviews with state and local representatives and data gathered from program managers, can help readers understand how the program has been implemented throughout New England. Check back with us at FarmToInstitution.org to download your copy of the report soon.
THANK YOU!
Thank you to our initial funders, USDA Rural Development, The John Merck Fund, and the Kendall Foundation, for your support and commitment to our work.
