Hi awesome PDG members, 

HAPPY HUMP DAY EVERYONE! It's that time of the year again! IAFP is this upcoming week! WOO! Firstly, we are super excited to see you all at the Student Luncheon (Saturday July 25th @ 12pm - 1:30pm). The Luncheon is only from 12 - 1PM; but our PDG meeting will be directly afterwards (so stick around)! 
Firstly, this'll be the longest email you'll receive from me this year, promise!! 

Here's the agenda for the rest of the email (expanded details below): 
1. Fundraiser: Selling T-Shirts ($20 / shirt) 
2. Volunteer Opportunity: Pull Silent Auction Sheets, Monday 3PM 
3. Student Mixer - Monday July 27 @ 7 - 9PM 
4. Get Involved with other PDGs Saturday! 
5. Help Brainstorm Ideas for next IAFP's Sessions (Symposiums, Roundtables, Technical Sessions)
6. Come support this year's sessions convened w/ the sPDG! 
  • S19, Monday 8:30AM - 10AM - The Never-ending Quest for Discriminatory Power: Updates on Molecular Analytics of Foodborne Pathogens
  • RT8, Monday 10:30AM - 12PM - Taking a Detour: Innovative Careers in Food Safety
  • S32, Monday 1:30PM - 5PM - Today’s Food Safety and Risk Communication Environment: Solutions-based Strategies to Improve Public Understanding


1. Fundraiser: Selling T-Shirts for $20. 
Who: Student PDG 
What: Selling Portland IAFP 2015 T-Shirts (design attached).
When: During the conference, breaks, receptions! 
Where: On the Showfloor and at Reception :) 
Why: Because YOU LOVE US, come support the student pdg with our annual fundraiser! Or better yet: get your PIs or bosses, or anyone to come and get an awesome nifty T-shirt! (design attached). 

2. Volunteer Opportunity: Silent Auction
Who: 5 Student Members! That Could Be YOU! 
What: Pull the Silent Auction sheets at the end of the auction
When: Monday July 27 @ 3 - 3:20PM
Where: Showfloor 
Why: It's quick and easy! :) Let Byron know if you're interested (byrond...@gmail.com)

3. Student Mixer
Who: YOU AND ALL YOUR FRIENDS
What: Get your drink - network - party - mixer on! 
When: Monday, July 27 @ 7 - 9PM
Where: C124 in the Convention Center
Why: Because who doesn't like some free drinks, awesome food, and AMAZING COMPANY! Plus, NEW FRIENDS!yay friends! 

4. Get involved with other professional development groups (PDGs) on Saturday! 
Who: You! 
What: Attend and get involved with other PDGs.
Where: apparently everywhere in the convention center; but don't forget to come to student luncheon at noon 
Why: There are Professional Development Groups for all the different types of food safety that you may be involved in. Just take a look at this list (http://www.foodprotection.org/annualmeeting/programs-and-activities/committee-meetings/)! It's OUTRAGEOUS! 
The other PDGs want students to become involved with their professional groups, just as you, too, want to grow your network! Getting involved with other PDGs and asking them how you can help out, or if their PDG would like to work with the Student PDG would be fabulous! 
Plus networking opportunities and new friends!! 

5. Brainstorm Ideas for next IAFP's Sessions

​Who: You and Your Friends and Food Safety Interests! 
What: Brainstorm ideas for Session Proposals due in early-October
When: Student Luncheon PDG on Saturday 1PM - 1:30PM
Where: After Lunch
Why: We'll talk about it then :) If you have any ideas, though, please feel free to stick them up there now! 

6. IAFP 2015 Sessions convened by sPDG
