Hi Flyers,

Thank you for attending yesterday's Flyte Open Source Community Sync.

Meetings notes and recordings are below:

Agenda:
  • 📣 Community Update

  • UnionML [Niels Bantilan - Union.ai]

Notes (Sandra):

Community Update: Slides / Recording

Katrina Rogan starts with the all-new Flyte 1.0 Phoenix release update, the recaps the MLOps meetup & PyCon US 2022, announces the upcoming Freenome presentation on May 17th, followed by the roadmap for Flyte 1.1.

Union.ai: Slides / Recording

Niels Bantilan introduces UnionML - the easiest way to build and deploy machine learning microservices. The core question being asked is whether or not it is possible to define a standard set of ML methods to be reused across different contexts.

Niels walks through a locally-executed UnionML app, starting with the dependencies, following by a dataset, a model, a reader method, a model trainer, a predictor method, and ending with an evaluator function.

Niels then demos a QuickDraw application that is able to take an input of pixel values (drawing) and make a prediction of that drawing.

UnionML is used remotely to scale training jobs to then connect to Flyte, and can also be used locally.

Our next OS Community Sync will feature Jeev Balakrishnan from Freenome on Tuesday May 17th, so see you all then!
