Google Sheets columns with the same name

Hi

Is there a way to map variable names for use in subsequent steps when a Google Sheet has more than one column of the same name?

I understand it would be preferable to just rename the column, but there are reasons that is not ideal.

To be clear, say I have a sheet with 6 columns, being primary and secondary contact details - if the 6 columns are A,B,C,D,E,F and the header names are firstName, lastName, email, firstName, lastName, email - it seems I can't refer to those columns by the auto generated variable names in a Google Document/PDF generation tasks - the values are blank.

If I rename the columns, the generation works - so it seems like the duplicate column names are causing an issue.

Is there some way to control the mapping of variable name to column name?

Thanks
Matthew

Hi Matthew,
you are right,. there is currently no way to control the column names if you have multiple columns with the same header.
You can specify a different row as headers, so probably you have a subsequent row in your case that has unique and stable info in it to be used as column names?
You could also use the low-level Sheets API (in the more section), which provides access to a given range of cells, but is more tedious to use.
I'll look into our end to check if we can add unique column names by appending a suffix to duplicate columns and will let you know-
Hope this helps,
Daniel

The issue with multiple columns with the same header should be fixed. Please click on the refresh icon in the "Load row(s)" or "Load worksheet" building block and configure the column names in the dialog box accordingly.
Please let me know if this works for you.
