Dear FINOS Community,

I am the Executive Director of AIR, the Alliance for Innovative Regulation, a non-profit dedicated to the modernization and digitization of the financial services regulatory system. One of the innovation strategies that we have been pioneering is helping the regulatory agencies use TechSprints (or hackathons) as an innovation tool.

As FINOS’ newest associate member, and supporter of the recently announced Open RegTech Initiative - which aims to promote open source collaboration among financial regulators and with the financial services industry, we are excited to announce that we will be partnering with FINOS on our upcoming AML TechSprint.

The Tech Sprint - scheduled for October 19-23 - will bring together a diverse set of stakeholders, including regulators, FinTechs, law enforcement officers and cryptocurrency experts, with an aim to surface new models of traceability and technological solutions to improve anti-money laundering tools and processes around cryptocurrencies. To focus the prototypes for this Tech Sprint the specific target is to develop technology that can curtail Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM) by detecting users through their cryptocurrency payment activities, without compromising the privacy and data security of innocent people.

The hackathon will bring together technologists and subject matter experts to collaborate for a short period of time to solve specific problems and code prototype solutions in real time and all the teams are being invited to present their solutions to the sr. leadership team at FinCEN. We are thrilled to partner with FINOS and would like to extend an invite to the FINOS community to join us for the sprint October 19th - 23rd (register here).

Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions and we look forward to collaborating on this and other regulatory open source design opportunities.

Best,
David
