Dear FINOS community,
We're excited to share an opportunity to get involved in the Currency Reference Data work stream. As background, this work spawned off the Alloy pilot FX Options working group, which has now connected with the Securities Reference Data project. The group identified the need to standardize and centralize currency data beyond ISO codes in a way that allows the industry to collaborate, contribute changes and have controlled data consumption. Data demand for non-ISO codes, currency rounding rules and associated locations and descriptions are some of the initial ideas being explored to create a currency golden source.
The objective of this work stream is to create a standard object to represent Currency data and create a central cloud based repository of the currency data. Modeling work will be done in Alloy, and there's an initial mockup of the model attributes that you can access here (please submit a request if you need access to the Alloy modeling instance).
The group is currently defining a project roadmap that you can review here. A key element of the first stage of this roadmap is to identify participants who are willing to contribute data to the central repository or use the data for validation within their environment. The data quality that the store can offer will be directly proportional to the number of participants that contribute data. Furthermore, participation numbers will influence the decision to create a central store for currency data or not. If we do not see enough interest for this warehouse then we might just restrict the scope to creating a standard object model for currency data.
The next meeting will be on October 6th at 10am ET / 3pm BST. Please let us know if you'd like to get involved, as well as if you have any questions.
Thanks & Regards,
Sailesh Pandey
