Dear Community,

whether you're following the US elections or a pandemic that continues to impact our daily lives, what better way is there to get your mind off the news than getting an update from FINOS? :)

While I realize I might not exactly find you at the peak of attention, with OSSF only one week away, I wanted to share with you that the state of our Community is incredibly strong. I am sure you've heard that in October Goldman Sachs completed the contribution of Legend, but what you might not know is that last month we recorded the largest number of commits on record.

Our Community is growing quickly, made of individuals like you actively contributing sweat equity and passion. Thank you - grazie! - as It's first and foremost because of you if this year over 60% of our new projects were contributed by banks. I am extremely proud of what we accomplished so far, and, as I always say, it's just the beginning.

Let me share with you a digest of items you definitely don't want to miss out on and key updates from our Q3 Governing Board meeting:

OSSF is only a week away!
We have an amazing lineup, a mix of OSS thought leaders, financial technology veterans and beloved project maintainers and the FINOS team. It's virtual, it's easy, it's a great way for you to learn more of everything going on in the FINOS world and find opportunities to engage. Register today and if you are a contributor let us know and we can get you a free pass.

Welcome to our new Members
Please join me in welcoming our new Gold Members Intel and SUSE, our new Silver Member Diffblue, and our new Associate Members Alliance for Innovative Regulation (AIR) and InterWork Alliance (IWA). Our Community keeps growing the diversity of its support and representation, and this makes us stronger.

Q4 Focus Projects
The Governing Board (GB) has approved 4 Focus projects for Q4 2020:
Also congrats to the 5 Q3 Focus Projects for so much progress in the last quarter. If you'd like to

Join 2 New Special Interest Groups
The GB also approved two Special Interest Groups (SIG):
  • Regulation Innovation (sponsored by our New Associate Member AIR and ING): Together the outstanding response to the Open RegTech initiative, this group is going to drive FINOS progress in leveraging open source to mutualize regulatory implementation. Follow the SIG early stages and join the upcoming first meeting if you are interested!
  • DevOps Mutualization (chaired by Morgan Stanley with support from Cloudbees): This is a fantastic example of grassroots collaboration from our Community, in the realization that there are common and very special requirements for a regulated industry like ours when it comes to internal DevOps.  Follow the SIG early stages and join the upcoming first meeting if you are interested!
Diversity and Inclusion Committee update
The Diversity and Inclusion group, led by our Chair Emeritus Alejandra Villagra (Citi) has presented its initial charter and recommendations to the Board on how to make an impact on diversity on our team, Board, Community. The group continue to operate as a Board Committee and will extend to everyone who volunteers or volunteered already. Expect it to influence our 2021 strategy, so stay tuned!

Formation projects and initiatives
We have some really interesting projects and collaborative initiatives in formation, soCheck out our Community repository to get in on the action early: there's some really interesting projects in there.

I tried to keep this note short, but as you can see, there's so much going on. I hope this gives you a few ideas on how to get engaged.

Finally, this quarter we'll skip our quarterly Community call, because I look forward to "seeing" all of you at OSSF next week!

Thanks,

Gab
