Dear FINOS Community,

I am excited to announce that the AI Governance Framework was successfully contributed to FINOS and hosted at https://github.com/finos/ai-governance-framework - you can see a published version of the framework here: https://air-governance-framework.finos.org/

The governance framework started life as a project within the AI Readiness SIG (https://github.com/finos/ai-readiness), but has subsequently spun out as a separate project, allowing us to wrap the appropriate (open source) governance around it.

Our goal is to mutually develop a governance framework that manages the on-boarding, development of, and running AI-based solutions within financial services organisations - allowing us all to unlock the potential of this disruptive technology in a safe, trustworthy and compliant way.

For further context, I'd recommend Luca's recent blog post (https://www.finos.org/blog/building-an-ai-governance-framework-key-takeaways-from-the-nyc-workshop), which highlights some of our recent workshops where we have heard more about the broader industry challenges, as well as refined the framework through working sessions.

Our immediate goal is a v1 release of this framework for OSSF London (24th June). I personally hope to see you all there.

Thank you on behalf of the AI Governance Project Maintainers:

So great to see this progress so fast! In less than a year we have seen so much progress and I personally look forward to OSFF and the 1.0.

I really believe that between Common Cloud Controls and AI Governance Framework, both accelerating their pace, our contributors have hit a real need for the industry.

By shifting left the collaboration between financial institutions and technology / AI vendors / CSPs to build truly open, machine readable common controls we can dramatically simplify adoption and compliance in what effectively is a shared responsibility model. IMHO it's a natural win-win-win, for FSIs, for vendors, for regulators.

Case in point, many of you would have seen the Open Letter from Pat Opet, CISO of JPMC: when I saw it, I really felt emboldened we're onto something very big here as we are providing a concrete path to solve these issues at systemic (rather than point to point) level and as a result raise the security posture of the industry at large.

Thanks to the maintainers and all the contributors for all the momentum here!

Gab
