Dear FINOS Community,

Welcome to our pilot “This Week at FINOS” email. Please feel free to forward this email to colleagues and industry partners who you think may be interested in FINOS.

Here's what’s happening the week of June 10th, 2019 within the FINOS community:

Monday June 10
Tuesday June 11
  • 5pm ET / 10pm BST. Refinitiv Labs Open Day
    • Refinitiv Office, 3 Times Square - 30th Floor, New York, NY 10036 (Note: Same building in which TradingTech is taking place) [Map]

  • Also starting Tuesday, going through Thursday, is the CB Insights Future of Fintech conference; Rob Underwood will be attending Wednesday and Thursday.
Wednesday June 12
Thursday June 13
Friday June 13
A couple reminders:
  • All FINOS meetings are open to the community. Some meetings though, such as the Data Technologies Kdb working group, have participation eligibility requirements, e.g., particular programming language or framework experience.

For more info about any participation eligibility requirements, see the working group home page on its respective wiki. If you'd like to participate in a working group call of a group that maintains eligibility requirements, and are neither an existing participant, nor have applied and been approved onto the working groups mailing list (i.e., been confirmed to meet the requirements), plan to join as a passive participant. More info is available on the Participate page on the FINOS wiki and in the board approved Active Participation policy.

  • PMC meetings are intended first and foremost for the Program Management Committee itself to conduct program business and governance matters. Like all FINOS meetings, these are open to the FINOS community, but please keep in mind that program general meetings, along with specific working group and project meetings, are the preferred channel for wider community input.

  • See our program calendar for a monthly view of upcoming program meetings. Upcoming events such as conferences and meetups, both FINOS produced as well as featured events FINOS staff are attending and/or we think might be of interest to the community, can be found on the FINOS events page

  • A reminder that FINOS is in the process standardizing on Github IDs for authentication and participation reporting. If you don't have a Github ID, please get one by July 15. ALL community participants, whether developers or not, will soon need a Github ID.

  • The FINOS team has undertaken a project, of which this email is part, to further improve how we reach new community participants, especially developers, and in turn how we onboard community participants into our mailing lists, meetings, and github repositories. If you or a colleague would like to provide feedback on FINOS messaging and/or FINOS on-boarding, send a note to he...@finos.org.
We’d also love your feedback, either directly, or by replying to the wider community at comm...@finos.org, on whether this email is useful to you. If it is, we'll continue doing it. If it's not, we won't. Let us know what you think.

Have a great week,

Rob

Dear FINOS community,

The Object Library on the microsite for Financial Objects (FO) has been updated to include the latest object definitions and reflect the responsibilities of FO as discussed with FDC3 and Data Technologies (DT).

Regardless of technology or coding language, FO is the place to go to discuss your use case and collaboratively define and document an Object. Feel free to add directly to our GitHub repo, the Use Case Matrix or simply send an email to f...@finos.org.

Best regards,

FO PMC

Congratulations to Hammad at Citi, Will at JPMC, and Johan at Factset, along with everyone else working on the financial objects program, as well as the related efforts in FDC3 and the security reference data working group in DT.

There is really good stuff here -- I hope everyone in the community takes a moment to dig in, check these out, and look at how they might implement and use these object definitions in their own systems and applications. Please also share this work within your organizations.
