erratic webserver configuration at mds3.fidoalliance.org:443

Hi,

During SSL handshake while we connect to mds3.fidoalliance.org:443 we are offered an inconsistent certificate chain. Not sure who can fix this or how we can contact somebody at FidoAlliance for this.

Currently the main server cert (CN = fidoalliance.org) is certified using a Let's encrypt certificate (C = US, O = Let's Encrypt, CN = E5), which in turn is certified using a self-signed CA certificate (C = US, O = Internet Security Research Group, CN = ISRG Root X1). This in itself should work correctly and should be sufficient in case the last ISRG Root X1 certificate is trusted client-side.

Now the issue comes from the fact that additionally the webserver offers another certificate with the same CN (C = US, O = Internet Security Research Group, CN = ISRG Root X1), but signed by an expired CA cert (Digital Signature Trust Co., CN = DST Root CA X3). This root CA cert expired on September 30th 2021.

Could someone please dispatch this issue to the webserver admins?

Hi, thanks for your reaction David! Would it be possible to have an indication if this will be fixed at all and if yes, when we might expect the solution to be activated? I'm not putting any pressure of course. We're just wondering if we need to find alternative solutions on our side in the meantime. Thanks!
