Is there support for FIDO2 on Chrome mobile?

The use case we are looking to implement is to use biometrics to authenticate a user on a website on mobile.

Thanks

From what I have seen, both Chrome Dev and Chrome Canary currently have support. Not sure when support is going to regular Chrome mobile.

I think the feature name for mobile is: "Support for Touch ID as a platform authenticator via the Web Authentication API", which looks like it's part of Chrome 70 and Chrome 70 becomes the stable version in 19 days.

There is also a dependency on PlayServices that needs to be in place.   The platform authenticator is not in Chrome itself, only the API to access it as I understand it.

Someone from the Chrome team can probably be more accurate on how it is implemented.

Just to add to what Adam and John said:

WebAuthN is available on Chrome 70 on Android, although it's not the Touch ID feature (which is for MacOS only). Rather, the feature on Android is the same as on Desktop: "Web Authentication API". As Adam Powers pointed out, Chrome 70 is currently in Beta and going to Stable on Oct 16.

The implementation does require Google Play Services 12.8.58. Additionally, fingerprint-based user verification requires Android N+.

Do you have any information regarding WebAuthn support on Chrome for iOS?
I couldn't find any FIDO2 reference outside of the blink tree of chromium project. Do you know when/if support for these APIs are coming to Chrome for iOS?

Thanks,

+1

I could get WebAuthn to work with "fingerprint" on Android via Chrome Beta. However, not on ios. Would like to know when the feature will be available.
