Hi!

I've noticed a new Working Draft of the W3C came out [2] , but I'm not sure how this relates with the existing W3C Recommendation [1].

Is it the same standard but a new version? If so, why is it published that way? I'm a bit confused by "...Level 1" and "...Level 2" naming.

Also, it would be quite interesting if someone working on the draft could give us a bit of insight on the major changes/differences between them.

Thank you in advance!

Yes, it's version 2 of the WebAuthn standard. I think "Level" is W3C terminology, but I actually can't find a definition of that (apart from "maturity level", which seems separate) in the W3C process doc...

Anyway, Jeff Hodges compiled a summary of changes at the release of WD-02 (working draft 2). I'm guessing he'll do the same for upcoming releases as well: https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-webauthn/2019Dec/0034.html

I see, I was not used to W3C nomenclature.

About the changes, I think the html diff can give a general idea of the current changes. I also found a previous message of Jeff Hodges about the the difference I was mentioning (L1 document vs L2 document) : https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-webauthn/2019Jun/0248.html. I'll keep an eye on his following announcements.

Many thanks for the help and for your quick response, Emil.
