I would like to recommend the following changes to the upcoming spec:
fdsnws-event:
-------------
- The limit parameter is still defined with a minimum of 0. Limiting the
result set to zero elements makes no sense. Chad confirmed this in a mail
from 24.04.2013:
"Indeed the limit=0 case makes no sense, at IRIS we have also made this a
minimum of 1."
The SC3 implementation also enforces a minimum of 1.
- SC3 provides the following additional parameters which should be added to
the spec as optional parameters:
- formatted: boolean, controls whether the XML is pretty-printed, default:
false
- includecomments: boolean, controls whether comments are included in XML,
default: true
- includepicks: boolean, controls whether picks are included in XML,
default: false
This feature was initially requested by Marc Grunberg, on seiscomp3-l. By
default picks are not included because they will slow down the
performance significantly.
fdsnws-station:
--------------
- additional parameter 'formatted', see above

Stephan

If there are no objections from others I have no problem changing the minimum for the limit parameter to 1.
As for the new parameter proposals, I suggest that these be considered for the next version of the specification to allow an appropriate amount of time for discussion and review.
Regarding the 'formatted' parameter, another option to select such output would be to add alternate values to the 'format' parameter. For example, a value of 'xml-formatted' could specifically mean pretty-printed XML. That would be cleaner and easier than adding another parameter in my opinion.
regards,
Chad
