CPS Facilities roundtables have launched at various locations throughout the city. Every five years, CPS creates an Educational Facilities Master Plan (EFMP). This plan guides CPS’ efforts to update, improve, and modernize the environments where our students learn. In order to create the best plan possible, we need our voice to be heard LOUD AND CLEAR!! It is important that you take a moment to provide your input on this process.
In 2013, Chicago closed 50 Schools in the largest mass closure of public schools in U.S.History. These closings displaced 17,000 students and forced them to find community somewhere else, many of which transferred out of CPS. Many of these buildings still sit vacant across our communities. We need to work strategically to ensure we create a plan to make sure our children and schools are supported.
From December 2023 through February 2024, CPS is hosting 16 neighborhood-specific roundtable discussions across the city regarding our school facilities (also listed below). As part of these discussions, families and staff will be able to collaborate and share their thoughts on how the District should prioritize repairs, construction projects, and overall investments in our school buildings.
There are multiple ways for you to provide your input.
