Construction Activity Notices. To build the 5.5-mile Red Line Extension to 130th Street, including four new redline stations at 103rd Street, 111th Street, Michigan Avenue (near 116th Street) and 130th Street, work will be performed that may affect your community. While progress sometimes comes with inconveniences, we will do our best to keep them to a minimum.
CTA Red Line Extension: Tree Removal Starting in 2026 To prepare for construction of the Red Line Extension (RLE) Project between 95th and 130th streets, CTA contractors will soon begin tree removal where the new tracks will be built. CTA is committed to only removing trees necessary for construction and will replace as many trees as possible at other locations at a future time. Dates: January – February 2026 Locations: • E. 115th Street to the UPRR tracks from S. Michigan Avenue to the Metra tracks • W. 113th Street to W. 115th Street from S. State Street to the UPRR tracks • W. 109th Street to W. 113th Street from S. Princeton Avenue to the UPRR tracks • W. 107th Street to W. 109th Street from S. Princeton Avenue to S. Eggleston Avenue • W. 103rd Street to W. 107th Street from S. Eggleston Avenue to the UPRR tracks • Along I-57 South near the intersection of S. Lafeyette Avenue & S. Wentworth Avenue to the UPRR tracks Work Hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays Work Activity: Tree Removal Local Impact: • Crews will work from south to north. • There will be intermittent parking lane and alley closures within the work zone with flaggers to assist motorists and pedestrians. • Access to alleys and garages will be maintained. • No alley closures will be put in place until work begins at each location. • The contractor will implement dust mitigation procedures if needed. • There will be noise while the work is being performed.
