| A Future Worth Funding: The Power of Parent Mentors |
| The Parent Mentor Program has been a lifeline for families, schools, and communities—building bridges between classrooms and homes, and providing parents with opportunities to lead and learn. As we face proposed budget cuts this year, it’s important to reflect on what’s at stake. Every Parent Mentor represents hours of classroom support, meaningful family engagement, and leadership that strengthens our schools from the inside out. We’ve seen firsthand how this program transforms schools—mentors help students improve their reading, support teachers, and host community events that deepen school connections. Cuts would mean fewer mentors, fewer hours, and fewer opportunities for parents to be partners in education. With the right investment, however, we could expand to more schools, reach more families, and create even greater impact. Our work continues—and we remain committed to showing the power of parent leadership.

| Graduates Over Guns: “Spend the Trend” Rally Celebrates Youth, Honors Legacy |
| On a bright spring day, 103rd Street came alive with music, pride, and purpose as students from Julian High School marched down to meet 8th graders from Marcus Garvey Elementary for the annual Graduates Over Guns: Spend the Trend March & Rally. What began as a symbolic walk has grown into a powerful tradition, linking students across generations and emphasizing community unity and safety. After the students united, they marched together back to Julian High School, where a rally featuring live performances, scholarship presentations, and words of encouragement from community leaders took place. In a heartfelt passing-of-the-torch ceremony, graduates from both schools received accolades, and this year’s event included a moving tribute to fallen officer Areanah Preston. Among the many moments of celebration, we were proud to witness Marcus Garvey’s own Mrs. Takeo Lucas Clay receive the KEY (Keep Engaging Youth) Award, recognizing her unwavering dedication to youth and community. Congratulations, Mrs. Clay! Your light leads the way.

Wellness is a preventative measure for health. Making choices with wellness in mind allows for a healthier life, not just for you, but for your family as well.
