STRONG SOLAR FLARES IN PROGRESS: A new sunspot that abruptly grew into a giant this weekend is crackling with strong solar flares. An X-class flare earlier today caused a widespread shortwave radio blackout in the southern hemisphere. More explosions are in the offing. Updates @ Spaceweather.com.
