Falmouth - George R. McFarland, 87, of Falmouth died peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. For 62 years the beloved husband of Marilyn (Barnes) McFarland. They wed on June 6, 1959, in Norwich, CT.

Born in Norwich, CT, the son of the late George F. and Fornetta (Robertson) McFarland. He was raised in Norwich and attended the Norwich Free Academy. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy during the Korean Conflict and cruised around the world.

George attended undergraduate while working and taking care of his family. It took him many years to earn his BS in Engineering and an MS in Computer Science.

George first worked for Philco in Morocco and the US. His first job for Raytheon involved traveling all over the US with his family in tow. George went on to travel for Raytheon to Jordan, through the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

After retirement, George and Marilyn built their dream home in their dream location, Falmouth, MA. George and Marilyn traveled through Europe, the Middle East, and the US. George was an Amateur Radio Operator with the call letters K1GM, belonged to FARA and assisted communications during the Falmouth Road Race and other events FARA participated in. He was an active member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church.

George was a devoted family man, a humble caretaker, and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn J. (Barnes) McFarland, his daughter, Joy von Steiger of Cambridge, MA, his son, Scott McFarland and wife Ellen (Chello) of Guilford, CT, his grandchildren, Corey Quinland and Gabriele Lyman-von Steiger both of Cambridge, MA, and his great-granddaughter, Imaani Lyman-von Steiger of Cambridge, MA. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Shirley (McFarland) Hestley Green.

We wish to thank the Alzheimer Family Support Group and Beacon Hospice for their care and love. We would not have been able to manage the last years and months with grace without them.

Committal Service will be held at the MA National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne on Tuesday, November 2 at 11:15AM. A Memorial Service will follow at the John Wesley United Methodist Church, 270 Gifford Street, Falmouth at 1:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Family Support Center of Cape Cod.
