Dear Anjali,
We did evaluation across multiple Conferencing applications considering the following parameters:
- Quality of Video
- Stability of Software overall
- Familiarity and ease of use amongst vast common public
- Cost (The features we require - Audio, Video, Screen Share, Group calling are FREE)
Few drawbacks were:
- Desktop/Client based software (While most of the contemporary ones are Browser based)
- No recording facility
- Video calls detoriate when there is a mis match on Bandwidth speed, between the Caller and the Callee
Next closest was Google Hangout,
- but they compress the Video by default and children faces weren't recognisable
- require frequent User intervention (from the village side) and is bit complex.
Other options were - Webex, GotoMeeting, WiziQ etc were all commercial and incur Cost that aren't sustainable.
We also are now using some of the Conferencing products that are used in Corporate , who are sharing a client password for the use of their employees in the village side. ex. Arkadin, Tandberg.
Skype happened to be by far the most balanced option
Please do share the ones you came across, we always can look at options.
Regards,
Venkat
