Reading skills of students

Hi everyone,

 I just want to bring one thing forward to all teachers. I am teaching 6th class science in andhra pradesh(telugu language). I noticed that some students cannot read telugu script.I asked few students to read from text book which is in telugu and I noticed that some students cannot study. I think it is important for teachers to know which student can read and which cannot and then teach them how to study before going forward with teaching lessons.

Please feel free to suggest any idea to make this situation better

Dear All and Dear Sai,

Even I face same problem while teaching class 6 Science in Karnataka.

I try to spend sometime in helping them to read what is written there with the help of other students and read small sentences. But it is very hard and time consuming process.

I do not know what is the best way forward. I try to push them to try reading common words like vignana, neeru (water), gali (air) etc.

At the end of the day it is a grass root problem. We can only try the best possible scenario through Skype.

Greetings!!!!

I am also facing the same problem in Jharkhand when I teach science to class 6th. Few children are not at all comfortable even in their mother tongue.

I have requested few good students to help their friends in reading. Even told class assistant too to give reading practice to the children. 

I just hope this will work for them.
