Some follow-up items from today's meeting:
I'm attaching a screenshot of the proposed, VERY work-in-progress, flipped Angular Circulation interface, with the navigation on the left and summary on top showing the colorful patron status badges. (This file was linked in the Monday.com board description for the badge colors, because I was smarter a month ago, apparently.) Not final, just intended to illustrate what the badges will look like.
Note that some of the statuses didn't have human-readable labels, and I would welcome feedback on those as well as the questions of color, boldness, and icons.
Sierra let me know that the Monday invitation link expects everyone to have an Equinox domain. This is weird, because the account belongs to the Evergreen Board, but I'm assuming this happened because I set it up originally and it assumed my organization was to be used for everyone. I'll try to figure out how to fix it. In the meantime, if you can't sign up, email me and I will issue you a special personal invitation of your very own.
TL;DR: while HTML does have a way to mark them up, the only screen reader that actually supports them is VoiceOver. We can't do the visually-hidden trick Adrian describes in the next section because most of our column headers are interactive, and that means the visible text has to match the accessible name. In short, we should leave abbreviations alone and make sure they're listed in the glossary in the end user documentation.
I'm adding the screenshots and links to the meeting notes.
