Those "button" attributes in the holdings editor

Here's something we consider a usability issue, maybe for a future discussion?  

In the holdings editor, Item notes, tags and alerts display as a button, rather than showing the data with a dropdown, etc., like the other attributes, presumably because an item can have multiple notes, alerts or tags.  The problem is that there is no way to show whether or not there are any notes (etc.) without clicking on the button, and no one is going to click on the button everytime just in case this item happens to have any.  We think this would be much better there were an indicator next to each button that showed the number of notes (etc.), just like there is for Baskets, and similar to what we show to indicate a patron has bills, long overdues, etc.
