Hi Beth,
I am hoping that you could write a letter of support for Culinary Hospitality Outreach and Wellness (CHOW) for the COAC grant. We are applying to answer the call for more support for food/beverage/hospitality workers in Larimer County Colorado, particularly Fort Collins, Loveland and Berthoud. We have laid the groundwork there and lack the capacity to meet the need. In the past we have had in person meetings in Fort Collins that are on hold until we can afford to hire an additional peer. We have been working with Kaiser Permanente, the Alliance for Suicide Prevention of Larimer County, the Economic and Workforce Developement Department, and many local businesses who have a lot of confidence in our programs.
CHOW is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting mental health and well-being in the food, beverage, and hospitality industry. Hospitality workers experience the highest rates of illicit substance use, rank third in alcohol use, and face some of the highest suicide and overdose rates. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
CHOW is "us helping us", a community-driven initiative where hospitality workers support each other through industry-specific group meetings, education, resources, and one-on-one support. We’re breaking down stigma, providing tangible solutions, and changing lives. Over 80% of our participants return, with reports that they leave feeling better.
We offer multiple weekly discussion meetings (online and in person) for chefs, servers, bartenders, bakers, owners, farmers; everyone in the industry. These meetings are facilitated by Experienced Peers Offering Support (ExPOS), who are industry folks with lived experience who are trained to guide others.
I have attached a LOS template if that helps make things easier for your team.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Warmly,
