PHOTOS & FIBER EVITE

OPENING RECEPTION MAY 2 5 - 7

My name’s Westin Juvonen. I’m an adventurer, multi-sport athlete, and photographer. My show is all about bringing the exploration of nature to the public.

Expanded Bio: I started photography in 2014 when I lived in Wisconsin for a year to do volunteer conservation projects, daily excursions, and photography. I returned to Boulder, Colorado, with my Canon where I continued my practice in photography, arts and mathematics. I finished my high school career in 2017 and when I graduated, my drive for creativity and self-understanding was as strong as ever.

Over the years, I continued my excursions through the beautiful Rocky Mountains, Utah, Buena Vista, Oregon, many national parks, Washington, D.C., and other places. My portfolio of photography steadily increased during those 8 years, and I decided to make a career of it. I visited local galleries searching for answers and applied to be a contributing artist to the Art Center of Estes Park. I was accepted soon after in the year 2022.

My life has been filled with constant exploration experiences to beautiful places, many of which I did alone. My interests in mountain biking, snowboarding, parkour, free climbing and extreme sports have always had me living an active lifestyle and, in many ways, made a healthy desire for reaching new heights and opportunities. I found that the best moments for photography and life therewith are where not many people go. Personally, I believe that photography is a good way to share many experiences to those who wish to know what it could feel like to see such a view, not to just take a picture of such an accomplishment.

Mary Morse

Mary grew up back east learning various crafts and art, growing gardens, and hiking the Appalachian trail; then west. Teaching Waldorf kindergarten crafts led her into feltmaking, eventually professionally. Now "retired" to their cabin in the woods she uses natural materials and images from God's creation making art, ornaments, and wearable accessories for your happiness, comfort, and joy.

Mary learned knitting in first grade (from teacher Miss YARNell!) in Washington, DC. Then came crochet, weaving potholders, sewing clothes, art and crafts including jewelry, woodcarving and painting, etc. She hiked the Appalachian trail, lived on a farm in Virginia, then headed west to the Colorado Rocky Mountains. On the western slope she worked in the orchards, and as a cook for the senior citizens program.

She trained in Waldorf education and art in California, returning to Boulder, CO., to teach kindergarten at Shining Mountain Waldorf School for nine years. Working with wools and natural dyes for the classroom led to a handmade felt hat class with Anne Sneary (famous feltmaker in Boulder at the time), and hooked, Mary became a professional feltmaker, traveling the country to fiber shows and teaching. She and husband Fred had the Utica Street Market, general store, and full Spectrum fiber Arts in Ward, CO for 14 years before "retiring" to their off-grid cabin in the woods at 9000 feet.

"Now I am creating handmade felt and fiber art from God's natural creation in my studio there to hopefully bring happiness, comfort and joy to other folks. For the next exhibit I will continue my 'round alphabet series ' of inlay felt tapestries with one word titles (currently on "Revelation" and "Sunrise"); handmade felt hats (named after songs); various knitted, crochet, and felted accessories, and ornaments, and more; also yarns, silks, and fiber art dyed with Colorado aspen leaves, natural dyes, and botanicals."

See this exhibit at the Art Center of Estes Park, and more of Mary's work at The Old Gallery in Allenspark, and The Glass Tipi in Ward.

The Estes Park Elementary School would like to invite the community to a small Elementary Art Show being exhibited by the Art Center of Estes Park May 2nd - June 2nd 2025. This show will be featuring a range of students from the grades 3rd - 5th with 103 artworks. Students have been learning skills that include the elements and principles of art such as Emphasis, Unity, Variety, Texture, and Pattern. These mediums being featured in this show include drawing, collage, painting, and two types of weaving. Severyn Cargill has been the Elementary Art Teacher for three years and has been working with the community to bring outside art related activities into the school.
