Power Outage - Final Update

5:17 p.m. Final update: All areas of the Estes Park Power & Communications service area were restored earlier this afternoon. As of about 5 p.m. the distribution system is now stabilized. For anyone who was conserving power for us, normal electric consumption may resume. The root cause of the failure of WAPA’s lines to Estes Park from the Front Range is still unknown. We will share more information on that as it is provided to us. Thank you for your patience.

12:26 p.m.: Estes Park Power and Communications has been able to restore power to the full service area using all available options. However, WAPA has not been able to restore full transmission on its lines from the front range. In order to help us manage the load, we request customers use only essential electric until this is resolved.

10:18 a.m.: Many customers, those in portions Estes Park and Allenspark, should have power again. They are served by the Marys Lake substation, which has been reenergized. Customers in the Fish Creek area, Carriage Hills, Highway 36/Pole Hill, Fall River area, Devils Gulch and Dry Gulch (north end), US 34 and Glen Haven: Power will be restored once Western Area Power Authority reenergizes the transmission lines from the front range and tells our crews, Estes Park Power & Communications, that we can reenergize the other Estes Park substation to restore power in your areas. Thank you for your patience.

9:26 a.m.: The electric transmission lines to Estes Park from the front range failed, and Estes Park crews are currently energizing the system from the backup transmission source that runs through the Alva Adams tunnel from the west. Reenergizing lines must be done slowly and in phases, to not overload the system. Some areas of the Estes Valley are coming back online now. The peripheral areas of the valley, Allenspark and Glen Haven will be the last to come online. We do not have an ETA for full restoration of power at this point. Thank you for your patience.

8:18 a.m.: There is a power outage across the Estes Park Power & Communications service area. Crews are working on this and hope to have it restored soon. Please watch the Town's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TownofEstesParkCO for updates. Thank you for your patience. There is no need to report this outage.
