Don Elliott's New Book

APA Colorado and the Colorado Springs Planning Department’s Planning Plate Initiative present a Seminar with Don Elliott. Mr. Elliott will discuss his new book, An Even Better Way to Zone: Achieving More Affordable, Equitable, and Sustainable Communities. 


This event will be held within the Colorado Springs City Administration Building’s 1st Floor Conference Space, although you may attend virtually, as well.


Following the event, attendees may choose to join us for a Happy Hour beginning at 5:15 PM at The Archives on Tejon St.


This event is FREE to anyone who wants to attend in person or virtually. However, to assist us in gaining an accurate headcount, we kindly ask that all attendees register using the registration link below.

  • Metered street parking is available throughout the Colorado Springs Downtown.
  • Additionally, Parking is available in the City Administration Building Parking Garage for $1 per hour, located across the street from the City Admin Building (Southwest corner of the Colorado Ave and Nevada Ave intersection).



More About Don Elliott's Book & Where to Buy It

Seventeen years ago, Don published A Better Way to Zone. Since then, conversations around zoning has changed and more folks are waking up to the power of better zoning. This is why he wrote and published An Even Better Way to Zone: Achieving More Affordable, Equitable, and Sustainable Communities with Island Press in December of 2025.

 

More about Don Elliott:

Don Elliott is a Senior Consultant with Clarion Associates, a national land use consulting firm based in Denver, Colorado. Elliott’s practice focuses on land planning, zoning, and international land and urban development issues. Don has been especially instrumental in the greater Colorado Springs area, serving as the lead consultant on the Colorado Springs Unified Development Code Update (ReToolCOS) as well as been involved in El Paso County’s Code Update.


Prior to Clarion, Elliott was Project Director for the Denver Planning and Community Development Office and was responsible for the Gateway Project and the Downtown Zoning Projects. Elliott has also served as a Democracy and Governance Advisor to USAID in Uganda for two years, and has completed international consulting assignments in Russia, India, Lebanon, and Canada. He began his career with the Denver law firm of Davis, Graham & Stubbs, where he practiced real estate law for four years. Elliott has a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning and Policy Analysis from Yale University, a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School, and a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners, a past national Chairman of the Planning and Law Division of the American Planning Association, a past president of the Colorado Chapter of the American Planning Association, a past member of the Amicus Curiae Committee and the National Policy Committee of the American Planning Association, and a member of the American, Colorado, and Denver Bar Associations. He is the author of A Better Way to Zone: Ten Principles to Create More Livable Cities (Island Press 2008).
